Hoping For A Brighter Tomorrow (June 2005) - Charleston resident Susan Johnson stands in front of downtown Charleston's dusktime skyline - a picture she hopes will develop over time with her proposed Charleston Waterfront Complex.

Susan is a native West Virginian. She grew up in the Charleston area and is happy to say she lives in downtown Charleston. Susan lived in Delaware for many years during her early adulthood, where she worked for engineering firms and gained a great deal of knowledge in commercial construction. As a project officer with FEMA, Susan worked in several different states as a liaison between city, county and state offices assessing damages and organizing cleanup and repair efforts after major flooding.

While living in Delaware, she gained an appreciation of the community development of waterfronts that took place in cities such as Wilmington, DE; Philadelphia, PA and Baltimore, MD and the economic growth that was experienced as a result of these projects. After returning to Charleston, Susan set out to design a waterfront complex, discussing this topic with many friends and associates for the last ten years. Susan set pencil to paper and realized the two-dimensional version of her dream. More discussions followed with prominent area business leaders and public servants. Susan gained a great deal of encouragement for her work and at each turn received a push to continue to bring her dream to life.

Susan stands at the threshold of a project that can bring many jobs, wonderful entertainment, and new life to the Charleston area. She is excited at all of the possibilities that the City of Charleston holds for the future.
